Luck + Meshin

2020 was a year of change for everyone. And that’s no exception for Meshin.

As of the end of December, Mike and I separated as partners in Meshin Movement. I’ll continue to lead Meshin forward and feel at this moment I’m standing on a frontier.  A separation between past and future. It is an important time to reflect on what brought me to this point as I also look ahead to energize for the future. Which brings me to the idea of luck.

There is no self-made success. A successful person needs a level of skill and talent, but ultimately, no matter who you are, your situation and success largely depends on luck. So with a great deal of humility, I want to share my gratitude for the luck I’ve had in knowing, working and growing with Mike Tracy.

Mike and I started Meshin just over two years ago. We had no intention of starting a strategy offering. We intended to chase a purpose-driven idea and find more meaning in our individual lives. What Meshin does today, brand strategy development, is the byproduct of that exploration. Initially, a way for us both to continue what we loved to do professionally and also see how we might expand on a more purposeful path.

Driven by this sense of exploration, we had two years of incredible experiences together and with our clients. Where we are today was never a vision for where we were going, but I have always considered myself lucky for the unintended outcome that is Meshin.

Mike brought the luck of a tailwind. His belief in me was a catalyst force that propelled my personal growth and the work we did together.

And while it might sound counter-intuitive and would probably lead to disastrous situations for most people, our partnership gave me the good fortune of working in tandem with my polar opposite. I had the rare opportunity to see and learn from a mirrored reflection of myself. Our differences and similarities were the context and backdrop for understanding my thoughts, feelings and actions in ways I hadn’t before.

From day one, Meshin challenged a sense of individualism that had always been part of my life.  And our journey as partners following that first day taught me a new type of trust and dependency.

Thanks to this rare and unique partnership, I can look back and see how changed I am for having started Meshin with Mike. And I can clearly see the impact of this time on who I am now. So lucky.

But 2020 being the year of unequivocal change, it also revealed the need to evolve Meshin. Initially united by our shared intention to chase purpose, here is where Mike and I each need to continue forward on our unique paths to personal and professional fulfillment.

And once again, I am lucky. I am lucky for the chance to continue to build on Meshin’s brand strategy expertise and also so fortunate to be building on a solid foundation of values, report and momentum.  Whatever the future holds for Meshin, the luck of Mike Tracy being a co-founder alongside me will forever be part of the magic of Meshin’s story.
